Little Cayman July 2015

Little Cayman is probably my favorite place to dive in the Caribbean.  This trips did not disappoint.  The Little Cayman Beach Resort continues to get better and better.  Reef divers, under the management of Craig Rowland has vastly improved.  It was always good but it is even better now.  They have widened the dock and added another section at the end, allowing them to get 5 boats on the dock at the same time.  In doing this they have created an ocean training pool that is just perfect for people doing there certification courses here.  Craig has changed the nitrox analyzing area to now have 4 stations instead of just 2.  This greatly reduces the bottle neck when analyzing your tanks.  The drying room has been redesigned to have racks for each boat, minimizing the chances of mixed up wet suits.  The most improved thing about Reef Divers is the staff.  There are a lot of new faces there and they are all really good at their jobs.  We had Will, Derek, Luke and Marcus on our two boats and the groups really enjoyed them They pointed out lots of cool critters underwater and were entertaining and helpful on the boats.  As a matter of fact I saw a couple of critters that I had never seen before in Little Cayman.

The resort has also made some improvements,  they have a new chief and the food is noticeably better.  The selection, the taste and the presentation were all wonderful.  The staff in the restaurant and the bar were awesome. Claudia, Judeen, Robert and Stephanie were friendly and helpful.  They greeted all of my guests with a warm smile and by name every day.  Jose and Theresa at the bar were friendly and efficient.  Making sure everyone was served in a timely manor and with a friendly attitude.  Jose is an amazing artist and created a beautiful sign for our groups farewell cocktail party on Friday evening.

So how about the diving?  Well, it was 84 to 86 degree water, the typical crystal clear visibility and flat calm seas.  This is one of the reasons I love diving the Caribbean in the summer months.  We had some close encounters with turtles and a few caribbean reef sharks and of course the friendly Nassau groupers greeted us on every dive.  Our open water students: Tom, Cyndy, Jim, Kim and Madison, all did very well and completed all required skills.  Michael and Bill completed their Advanced open water certification with ease. Everyone in the group said that this was one of the best trips they had done.
